Project Description:

The intent of the program is the learning of the music as experiential and creative.

Although one result of the Musical Infusion is to produce connections between music and academic areas of science, history, social studies and literature, the primary intent of Musical Infusion is to produce enthusiasm in students and teachers for life and learning. Through staff development workshops, teachers create projects with artists based on their interests and talents. They do this by creating a deep relationship to one piece of music in the repertoire for the year.

This year’s Musical Infusion Projects at Montesorri 27are: Imaginative Flying Over the Arctic, linking music with global warming awareness; The Garden, linking music and flowers; There's A Boat Leavin' for NY, linking waterways and music; Eagles, linking Native Am. music with dance; A musical play on the Life of Louis Armstrong; Dancing Activists, linking choreography with indigenous rainforest activists; Poetry from the Heart of the Amazon, linking music and writing.

This year, the program offers the study of music from eight countries around the world and various composers from those cultures. Included in this year’s global overview of music are the French, Ibert & Saint Saens; the Hungarian, Bartok; the Americans, W.C. Handy, Sainte Croix & Loeb, the Paraguayan, Barrios; Native American, Egyptian and Chinese folk music, the Brazilian, Jobim and the Argentinean, Piazzolla.

The Musical Infusion Program is an Empire State Partnership funded by the New York State Council on the Arts. MS 27 partners with the cultural organization Sonora House, Inc. and the Yonkers School District to provide this program.
